SEMPRE Welcomes the DoW FutureG OCUDU Initiative Announced at MWC
At a glance: The Department of War’s OCUDU Initiative, announced as part of the FutureG program at MWC, reinforces a clear direction for next-generation wireless: open, AI-native, software-defined, and resilient by design.

What’s happening:
The DoW’s OCUDU Initiative focuses on advancing open CU/DU software as a foundation for future 6G systems. By anchoring development in open-source collaboration, the initiative aims to accelerate innovation while strengthening security and interoperability across military and commercial networks.
Why it matters:
CU/DU software sits at the heart of modern wireless systems. If it is not designed to withstand interference, jamming, and spoofing, no amount of downstream optimization can compensate.
Resilience must be built into the infrastructure layer, not added later.
The big picture:
SEMPRE’s mission aligns directly with this approach. Our technology already supports AI-RAN, integrated sensing and communications (ISAC), and application-level optimization on top of a fully integrated 5G stack.
What sets SEMPRE apart is not just openness, but operational survivability. Our services offer jam-resistant, support wideband spectrum use, and integrate networking, compute, cloud, security and backhaul into a single hardened infrastructure device. This enables secure operation across contested environments while remaining compatible with commercial ecosystems, including deployments approved for coexistence with major carriers like T-Mobile.
“Open architecture must be resilient under pressure,” said Rob Spalding, SEMPRE CEO. “We’ve built a fully integrated 5G stack that can host AI applications at the edge, optimize performance across the RAN, and continue operating when disruption is the norm, not the exception. We commend Dr. Tom Rondeau and the FutureG team for taking this important step toward establishing U.S. leadership in 6G.”
What’s next:
The OCUDU Initiative signals long-term commitment to open, AI-native wireless leadership. SEMPRE will continue advancing deployable infrastructure that turns those principles into operational capability: supporting defense, critical infrastructure, and commercial innovation at scale.
